Estimation of water rates for the cultivation of some vegetable crops in the western part of Basra Governorate

Abstract
The study location was identified in Al-Zubayr district of Basra governorate. The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between (possible evaporation / transpiration) and (evaporation / transpiration) for the selected crops under study (eggplant, okra and cucumber) to extract water values and to clarify the main geographical factors affecting them, through which it is possible to estimate the volume of field water losses and crop transport losses. The results show the validity of the second part of the hypothesis of the study that was reached (there is a quantitative variation of the water rates for the types of vegetable crops under study through their different stages of growth and between one agricultural crop and another). It was found that the highest total of water levels among the selected crops was represented by the water rating of the eggplant crop (3359.4 mm), which is equivalent to (8398.5 m 3 / dunums) divided through its growth stages to (1593.9 mm) during the maturity stage, followed by the vegetative growth stage (1582.9 mm). ) followed by the germination stage (182.6 mm), and the total number of irrigations required to deliver this measure correctly (56), reaching the maximum period between two successive irrigations (seven days). During the germination stage and the minimum period (three days) during the maturity stage. The results also found that the lowest total water volumes for cucumber crop (1688.5 mm), which is equivalent to (4221.25 m3 / dunum), divided through its growth stages to (873.4 mm) during the maturity stage, followed by the vegetative growth stage (721.6 mm), followed by the germination stage (93.5 mm). The total number of irrigations required to deliver this dose correctly (35 irrigation), reaching the maximum period between two successive irrigations (nine days) during the germination stage and the minimum period (three days) during the maturity stage.
