الملخص
إن التنوع الديني والاجتماعي في البصرة مطلع القرن العشرين أتاح ظهور شخصيات من طراز الحاج جيتا تجمع بين خلفية أجنبية وهوية عراقية بصرية خالصة، وتساهم بإخلاص في بناء المجتمع، وأن رأس المال الوطني حين يقترن بالقيم الدينية والأخلاقية يصبح أداة قوية للتنمية وخدمة للناس، وهذا ما جسده جيتا في مشاريعه التي سبقت مؤسسات الدولة في كثير من المجالات كالتعليم والصحة والرعاية الاجتماعية، وأن الصراعات السياسية قد تعصف بأصحاب الخير دون ذنب إذا ما وجد فيهم المستبدون تهديداً لسطوتهم وهو درس يتكرر في التاريخ بأن الأنظمة المستبدة تستهدف أكثر الشخصيات الوطنية إخلاصاً تحت حجج واهية.
